1. Joining and Account Stuff
1.1 How much does Furry Paws cost to play?
Furry Paws is completely free thanks to donations made by your fellow players.

1.2 What's the difference between my Login Name and my Nickname?
Your Log In name is your “Username” when you log in to the site, and cannot be changed. Your Nickname is the name people will see on your profile, when you post on the boards, in the chat room, and throughout the rest of the site. This is probably the name your fellow FP players will come to know you as, so you’ll want to make it something original. Unlike your Log In name, your Nickname can be changed at any time, so don’t worry if you’re having trouble deciding on one. It is highly recommended that you make your Nickname different from your Log In name, and keep your Log In name private to help prevent hackers from getting into your account.

1.3 Why should I give my email to you? What will you do with it?
The FP Privacy Statement explains all, but basically your e-mail will be used to send you your log-in information and on the rare occasion that Kah needs to contact you. FP is a no-spam zone.

    1.4 What's a Kennel Name?
On Furry Paws, you have a “kennel” where you keep all of your dogs. A kennel name is simply what you call your kennel, and can be changed at any time.

1.5 How many accounts can I have?
3, and only 3. Kah is more than generous in how much start-up money we can get, and there’s really no reason to have more than 3 unless you’re trying to break some rules. This is also all stated in the FP Terms of Service.

1.6 Can we delete our accounts?
Simple answer: No. The ability to delete accounts would make it far too easy to cheat at this game.

1.7 My account has been frozen/restricted! What did I do?
Most likely you broke the FP Terms of Service, and/or were ignoring warnings from a mod. At the moment freezings/restrictions are permanent. Furry Paws really doesn’t have any ridiculous rules. It’s not like you’re being asked to wear purple penguin slippers and hop on one foot. Most of the rules are common courtesy toward your fellow human beings. Use your common sense (as in: is it smart to poke a shark with a stick?), and you shouldn’t have any problems.

    1.8 How do I change my e-mail/password?
Go to Help --> Change Password, fill in the information on the form, and hit “Submit Form”.

1.9 My page got all messed up! How do I fix it?
Click on Help -- > Reset Kennel Page Tool, and hit the large brown button that says “Reset Kennel Page Description”.

1.10 Someone hacked into my account! What should I do?
What many people refer to as "account hacking" is rarely hacking at all, but rather individuals discovering the login information of an account. Unfortunately, there is very little FP can do about this kind of "hacking," as it often results from players not being careful with the kind of passwords they choose. However, there are some precautions you can take to keep your account (and everything on it) safe :)

First and foremost, never ever ever ever give your login information to anyone. Even people you consider friends may "hack" your account and steal things. Or, they may not be careful with where they store the information, and someone with access to the same computer might be able to find that information and steal your account that way.

Second, use different passwords for your FP account than any other accounts you have. And, remember, if someone has access to your e-mail account that FP points to, they can reset your password using the lost password tool and steal your account that way.

Third, don't use simple passwords. A good password is at least 10 characters in length and contains a mixture of caps (A-Z), lower case letters (a-z), and numbers (0-9).

Fourth, change your password regularly. The more you change your password, the more difficult it will be for someone to discover how to log in to your account. You can change your password at any time by going to Help - Change Password.

    1.11 What is account locking?
Account locking allows you to "freeze" your account. While your account is locked, your dogs won't age, get hungry, unhappy, or shown, and you won't receive a salary. You can unlock your account any time you want to. This feature can be very useful for people who are going on vacation or who want to take a break from FP for a while. Please be aware that dogs cannot be bred if they were born more than 100 days apart. Hence, if you are gone for 4 months or so and come back and try to breed your great male dog to someone else's female dog, you probably won't be able to due to the birth date difference between the two dogs. The account locking feature can be accessed from the link in the help section.

2. Kennels
    2.1 How do I get a kennel?
Every player is given a kennel automatically when you join. Your kennel is your “home base” of sorts. Just click on “Home” on the navigation bar to see it.

2.2 I'm out of room for dogs! How do I make my kennel bigger?
Scroll down to near the bottom of your kennel page, you should see a section called “Improve Your Kennel” and a long brown button that says “Increase Kennel Size” with a number next to it. The number is how much money it will cost you to upgrade your kennel, and will increase every time you make it larger.

2.3 How many dogs can I have?
To find out how many dogs you can have, take your kennel size and multiply by 2. For instance, if your kennel size is 3, you can have 6 dogs. You can see how many dogs you have currently and how many dogs you could have by clicking on “Kennel Profile” and looking in the top left corner.

2.4 How do I change my kennel name/description/specialty?
On your kennel page, you should see a section called “Kennel Edit Tools”. Under this are several fields you can edit and customize to your preferences, including your kennel name and how your dogs are ordered. Below these you will see a large white box called “Description”. Simply enter what you want to say into this box and click “Edit Kennel Information.”

    2.5 What’s the “specialty” for?
A “specialty” is simply what breed(s) you specialize in, or what breed(s) you raise the most in your kennel. When other players look at your kennel, they’ll be able to see quickly what breeds they’re likely to find there.

2.6 How do I get backgrounds/remove the paws/change the text color for my kennel?
Anything besides plain text on your kennel description requires the use of HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), the coding that all internet pages are built with. To find out how to do some basic HTML, please see Jay Elle’s HTML Help.

2.7 What is a training area and how do I get one?
A training area is a place to exercise your dog with the possibility of raising random stat points. To make a training area, your kennel will need to be at least size 5. When you reach that, a link will appear on your kennel page that says “Your Training Area”. Remember, you’ll need to add items from the “Training” store for it to be of any use.

2.8 After size 5, are there any other benefits to upgrading your kennel?
Besides being able to own more dogs, not yet, but this may happen in the future.

2.9 What is a “registered” kennel? How do I register my kennel?
Registering your kennel come with a few benefits, such as making an “official” specialization list and adding a kennel prefix to your dogs’ names. Before you can register your kennel, your dogs’ total number of places in a show must be equal to or more than 300. In example, you could have 1 dog with 300 places, or 2 dogs with 150 places each. Once you have enough, you can click on “Register Your Kennel” (beside your kennel name under Kennel Edit Tools) to be taken to the registration page. Registration will also cost 20,000 Furry Paws Dollars.

2.10 What is a kennel prefix?
A kennel prefix is probably the most important part of registering your kennel. When you register your kennel, you also register a set of 1-4 characters that you can then apply to any dog in your kennel. No two kennels have the same prefix, and the prefix cannot be removed from a dog unless you un-register your kennel. This way, you can track every dog that came from your kennel, even if the dog is sold, and other players can see where that star puppy came from.

    2.11 What are affiliations?
Once a kennel is registered, a link will be displayed on its page that says “Request Affiliation”. Becoming affiliated to a kennel means that you will be able to use their kennel prefix, but you will not be able to register your own kennel. To manage requests to your own kennel, click on “Registered Kennel Management” (just below your kennel name under Kennel Edit Tools). A word of caution: be very careful about who you affiliate with. Make sure it’s someone you know, trust, and agree with before you accept an affiliation request.

3. Money, Jobs, and Inventory
3.1 How do I know how much money I have?
The number displayed below your name beside Money: is commonly called your “on-hand” money. You need to have money on-hand to buy items, pay fees, and place bids on dogs. However, you can also keep money in your FP Bank Account. Go to the Market and click on the Bank (grey building with a $ sign on it) to see how much you have in your account, what your interest rate is, and how much salary you’re getting. From this page you can also deposit your on-hand money into your bank account or withdraw money from your bank account.

3.2 How do I get money?
It is not hard to make money on FP. Probably the best way to make money is to get a Job. Your weekly salary can be collected from the Furry Paws Bank once every week. Salary collection resets every Sunday. Even if you don’t have a job, FP’s Social Security will give you a 5,000 salary anyway. You can also play the games your lufferly Kah has made for you (Atlas --> Games), sell items in your shop, sell dogs, trade items for money in the Trading Area (Atlas --> Trade), open a clinic if you’re a vet, or a training area if you’re a trainer, breed dogs for people if you’re a master breeder, or double-train dogs if you’re a professional trainer. Many players also offer “services” they’ve designed (such as boarding) at a cost to other players, or sell artwork they’ve done on the Art Sales board. Just make sure you’re not breaking any FP rules, and that any artwork you sell is your own.

3.3 How do I give my money to someone?
Go to Market --> Bank and scroll down to where you see a form called FP Cash Transfer. Fill in the amount of money you want to send, the ID number of the person you want to send it to, and your own password, and hit “Transfer Cash” (hitting enter on your keyboard will take you back to the bank page, you must actually click the button). Remember you must have that amount of money in your bank account. You will be taken to a confirmation page to make sure you’re not sending the wrong amount of money (uh oh!) or sending it to the wrong person (double uh oh!). Hit “Yes” or “No”, and viola! Your money has been sent.

3.4 How do I get a job? Why should I get a job?
To get a job, go to Atlas --> Jobs. On this page you will find all of the information you need to know about how much salary and what benefits you get with each different job. The most obvious reason to get a job is the increase in money, but depending on what you want to do on FP, the different benefits can be a big help as well.

3.5 How do I promote in my job?
To promote in any job, you need uxp (User eXperience Points). On the Jobs page, just beneath the description, it will tell you how many uxp you need to advance. If you have enough, you will see a friendly “You have enough uxp to promote!” message (yay!), and a button that says “Promote”. Click on this, and congratulations! You’ve moved up a level in your job.

3.6 How do I get uxp?
When you first begin FP on a new account, you are given 10 uxp (think of it as a welcoming gift). Every day after that your account is credited with 1 more uxp, whether you’ve logged in or not. Besides that, the only other ways to get uxp are by trading in Furry Paws Points or Referral Points. You cannot sell uxp.

3.7 How do I see which items I have?
Directly below your name and money, in the top right-hand corner, you will see a link called “Inventory”. Click on this to see which items you currently have. You can also access your Inventory by going to Market, and clicking on the blue backpack that says “My Stuff”.

3.8 How do I use an item?
In your Inventory, you should see little pictures of all of you items (tada!). Underneath each picture you’ll see “Use this item?” which will take you to a page where you can decide what you want to do with it (tada!). You can choose to discard it (put it in the Junk Yard), give it away (send it to another player), put it in your shop, or move it to your attic. Some items will have other options, which will also appear on the drop-down list, and items you can use on your dogs will show a list of all of your dogs’ names.

    3.9 What is the “Attic”?
Your Attic is where you can store items you won’t be using regularly. Basically, it helps you keep your inventory nice and tidy. To put an item into your attic, either click on the item and choose “Move to attic”, or go to “Shop Stocker” (linked on your inventory page) to move several items at once. When an item is in the attic, you can’t use it until you’ve returned it to your regular inventory. Simply click on “View Attic” to see what you have in there, and “Remove from attic” under any item you want to remove. Space in your attic is unlimited.

4. Dogs
    4.1 How do I get a dog?
The easiest way to get a dog on Furry Paws is to buy one from the Pet Shop. Go to Market --> Pets. At the top of the page you’ll be able to fill in all of the information about your new dog, such as gender, age, and breed. Make sure you’re sure about what you want before you purchase the dog, which will cost 5,000 FP dollars.

The second way to get a dog is to buy one from another player. You can use the “Search” page to look for a dog to your specifications. Just make sure the “Sale” option is set to “Public” (automatic purchase), “Private” (owner will need to accept your bid before you receive the dog), or “Either” (displays both).

4.2 How does my dog age?
Your dog will grow one day older every time the day changes on FP (12 AM FP time). Dogs are separated into age categories:

Newborn puppy (1-2)
Infant Puppy (3-6)
Puppy (7-11)
Young Adult (12-39)
Adult (40-100)
Senior (101+)

Basically, if you buy a puppy at the pet store, it’s age description will say “Infant Puppy”, but the next day (when it has turned 7 FP days old) it will say “Puppy”, and when it has turned 12, it will say “Young Adult”.

4.3 Will my dog ever die?
Nope, all FP dogs are immortal ^_^

4.4 What can I do with my dog?
As this is a dog-based SIM, you can do lots of things—you can feed it, play with it, accessorize it, sell it, even breed it—but the main part of the game will be entering it in shows.

4.5 Do I ever have to stop doing things with my dog?
You don’t have to, no. However, when a dog reaches 101 days of age, it loses the ability to show, train, or breed and is officially a “Senior”. When this happens, it’s best to retire your dog. Retiring your dog does not mean you’re ‘kiling’ it (they’re immortal, remember?)—just think of it as letting him settle into a nice, long retirement, where he can romp and play in a huge backyard with lots of toys, maybe play some Bingo on Tuesday nights…

4.6 How do I change my dog’s picture?
By clicking on your dog’s name, you will be taken to its Profile. Scroll down to where you see “Picture:”. Here you will see a link called “Search the Image Bank for a Picture”. Clicking on this will take you to pages full of pictures you can use for your dog, all drawn by players of FP. Alternatively, you can enter the URL of a personal picture, just remember to make sure it’s not copyrighted, as that would be considered stealing. ;)

    4.7 What is “Condition”?
Your dog’s Condition is based on several factors: Hunger, Thirst, Grooming, Happiness, and Comfort. Each of these factors count for different portions of the total percentage, which can be anywhere from 0-100.

Hunger: 15%
Thirst: 15%
Grooming: 15%
Happiness: 50%
Comfort: 5%

In other words, while Comfort only counts for 5% of your total Condition percentage, Happiness counts for a whole 50% of it. Therefore, having a low Happiness score will affect your Condition more than having a low Comfort score.

4.8 How do I play with my dog?
When you go to your dog’s page, near the bottom of its profile you will see “Assigned Toy:” and a drop-down list. You can choose any of the toys on this list for your dog, but you will need to have the toy in your inventory before you can use it. Once you’ve decided on a toy, hit the “Update Information” button. You should see a message that says “Success!! (Your Dog)’s Information Has Been Updated!”, and a picture of the toy you chose should have appeared on your dog’s page. Simply hit “Play!” underneath the toy to play with your dog.

Alternatively, you can choose the toy in your Inventory and hit “Play with (Your Dog)”. This looks a heck of a lot easier in writing, but assigning your dog a toy will probably save time in the long run :)

Playing with your dog will raise its Happiness score. Your dog will lose one Happiness point every day, so to keep it at 10/10 simply play with your dog once each day.

4.9 How do I feed my dog?
Before you can assign your dog a food, you’ll first need to give it a food bowl. Go to Market --> Accessories Shop to purchase a bowl for your dog, in whatever color appeals to you most. In your Inventory, select your new bowl. You should see your usual item menu, except that just above the dogs’ names you’ll see “Assign as a:”. Choose “Food Bowl”, then select the dog you wish to give it to and hit “Submit.”

Now that your dog has a bowl, you’ll need to buy it some food. Go to Market --> Food Shop to find a wide selection of foods for your dog. Each food raises a different stat (you can find which foods raise which stats [Here]), so you’ll want to feed it something appropriate for its show type. Also keep in mind that certain foods can only be used on dogs above a certain level. If you’re dog is still at level 1, you’ll probably want to buy some Lacrima Premium food.

Alright, so you have the bowl, and you have the food. Now you can go to your dog’s page, and just above where you assigned it a toy you’ll see “Assigned Food:” and a drop-down list of the foods your dog can eat. Choose the one you have in your inventory and hit “Update”. Now you’ll be able to simply click on the “Refill” option under your bowl, and it will automatically give your dog the 2 servings of food it needs a day to stay full.
As always, you could also feed them directly from you inventory by selecting the food. However, as you’ll have to feed each dog twice, it is much faster to assign them one, even though it takes a bit more work at the beginning.

4.10 How do I give my dog water?
Following the same process you used when you assigned you dog a food bowl, purchase a second bowl from the Accessories shop, but assign it this time as “Water Bowl.” On your dog’s page, simply hit “Refill” beneath the bowl, and it will give your dog enough water to last for 5 days. There is no need to buy water, just make sure you refill it every 5 days or your dog will become dehydrated (poor doggie).

4.11 How do I groom my dog?
Dogs have varying degrees of dirtiness on FP, which require the use of different tools:

Shampoo: 0-20%
Dematting Tool: 21-40%
Bristle Brush: 41-55%
Slicker Brush: 56-70%
Comb: 70%+

To buy a grooming tool, go to Market --> Grooming. The different colors are just for your personal preference, and don’t affect what the tool does. Once you have the tool you need, go to your inventory, select the item, and choose which dog you want to groom. If you don’t let your dogs get below 70% (groom them at least once every 6 days) you shouldn’t ever have to buy anything but a comb (yay for money saving!).

4.12 How do I make my dog comfortable?
By now you’re probably expecting some highly complicated procedure of assigning your dog a bed and fluffing their pillows every 3 days according to their breed and show type (hehe). But no! Making your dog comfortable is probably the easiest thing in the game. Simply go to the Accessories Shop and pick out a bed of your liking (again, colors do not make a difference). Select the new bed in your inventory, and choose the dog you’d like to give it to. Voila! You dog is now 100% comfortable for the rest of its forever-lasting life (now wasn’t that easy?).

    4.13 What is health?
Health is simply how healthy your dog’s eyes, ears, hips, and elbows are. They can get a rating of Poor, Fair, Good, or Excellent, Poor being the worst and Excellent being the best. Better health stats can help your dog perform better in shows.

To find out your dog’s health, go to Atlas -> Clinics and have a Vet do a “Genetic Health Test”.

4.14 How do I accessorize my dog?
Accessorizing is an important part of caring for your dog, as it makes a large impact on their stats. Different collars and leashes will raise different stats, so again you’ll want to make sure you’ve equipped the accessories best suited to their show type (find what different accessories do [Here]). To buy your dog’s accessories, go to Market --> Accessories Shop, and choose a leash and collar. Like foods, different collars and leashes can only be worn by dogs above a certain level, so keep this in mind when you’re buying. Then select the items in your inventory, and choose which dog you’d like to give them to. The dog should now be fully equipped :D

    4.15 How do I vaccinate/spay/neuter my dog?
All of these things can be performed at a Clinic. Go to Market --> Clinics, where you’ll be able to choose a price range for Vet fees, then hit “Find Clinics” to find a vet that can take your dog. You dog will need to be vaccinated once every month to be able to enter shows. Spaying and neutering make your dog unable to reproduce, just like in real life. Be very careful when choosing this option, because it is not reversible (just like in real life).

4.16 How do I sell my dog?
Near the bottom of your dog’s page, you’ll see a box that says “Sell Dog”. There are two ways to sell your dog on FP: Regular Sale and Private Sale. Putting your dog up for Regular Sale means you have no control over who buys your dog, only over how much they pay. The dog is automatically sent to whoever pays the money first. A Private Sale means that you can look over any players that bid on your dog, and decide for yourself who you want it to go to. To put it up for sale, choose which type of sale you want and how much you want to sell the dog for, and hit “Sell Dog.” Make sure you really want to sell your dog, because once it’s sold it officially belongs to the other player, and there’s no way to get it back unless the other player chooses to do so.

4.17 How do I breed my dogs?
On your kennel page, you’ll find a link just below your list of dogs that says “Breed Dogs”. This will take you to a page where you can select which dogs you wish to breed. The dogs must be the same breed and at least 12 days of age.

Further down on the page, you’ll find an option to use the services of a Master Breeder. This is highly recommendable if you plan on showing your dogs, as the use of a Master Breeder will give your new puppies 2 “boosts” in their stats, rather than the usual 1. A boost basically means the stat will be higher than the other stat—in any case, 2 boosts is always better than 1. The service will cost 8,000 FPD, and the request must be filled before midnight, when it will expire.

4.18 How often can I breed my dogs?
Female dogs can be bred every 12 days, they at least need time to wean the last batch. Males have no limit (hehe).

4.19 Can I let other people breed to my dog?
Yes. On your dog’s page, near the bottom and right above the Sell Dog box, you’ll find a similar box that says “Stud Status”. This one will give you the option to put your dog up for lease, and for what amount you want to lease the dog. Simply hit “Update” once you’re finished, and your dog will be put on a list of available dogs, which other players can search through when looking for a mate. Once a player has made a “Breeding Request”, it will be up to you to accept or deny their request via the “Breeding Requests” page, found beneath your dog list right beside the Breed Dogs link. As with anything involving your dogs and other players, exercise caution; once a breeding has been done it cannot be undone.

4.20 Can I breed to someone else’s dog?
Yes. The best way to find another dog to breed to is probably using the “Search” tool. On the main navigation bar, click on “Search”, and scroll down to the “Dog Search” box. Here you can fill in all sorts of things about what kind of dog you’re looking for, from breed to genetics. The most important part when trying to search for a breeding partner though is making sure the option next to “For Stud:” says Yes. Once you’ve filled in everything you need, hit “Search”, and you’ll be taken to a list of dogs that match your specifications. At the very bottom of each dog’s page you’ll see “Request”, where their breeding fee is listed. Click on “Make a Request”, where you’ll need to choose the dog you plan to breed, and can add any comments you want to make to the owner. If you’re requesting to a female dog, you’ll need to list at what age you’ll want to use her.

Many owners on FP have “Breeding Requirements” listed on their kennel page, or certain things you, your kennel, or your dog must meet in order for them to let you breed to their dog. It’s always a good idea, therefore, to check someone’s kennel page and make sure you make any requirements before you make a request. The owner will have to accept your request before you can use the dog. You can view your pending (and accepted) requests on the “Breeding Requests” page.

4.21 How do I level my dog? What does it do?
To level your dog, you’ll need to enter shows. Each show will give you points depending on how well your dog does in the show. When your dog has enough points, it will move up a level.

When you breed your dogs, their stats do not affect the puppies. What makes the difference is how high their levels are. When a puppy’s stats are first “rolled” (chosen randomly, like rolling dice) they’re the same as any puppy you’d get from the Pet Store. One of their stats is chosen for a boost, and then the dam’s (mother’s) level is added to the minimum roll, and the sire’s (father’s) level is added to the maximum roll.

In example, let’s say you breed your level 10 dam and your level 15 sire together. Depending on which group they’re in, a normal roll for a stat would be around 15 to 20. Then you add the parents’ levels (10+15 and 15+20), and suddenly your puppies have a chance of getting 25 to 35 on that stat. That’s quite a large boost.

Furry Paws works like a big loop: higher leveled parents make puppies with better stats, who therefore to better in shows, and so they level higher, which means their puppies will have even better stats, will do even better in shows, will level even higher, and so on and so forth. As long as you keep breeding at higher levels each time, your puppies will get better and better :)

4.22 How do I train my dog? What does it do?
Before your dog can enter shows, it will need to be trained in a sport. To do this, go to Atlas --> Training (the blue ramp with the yellow “T”). Here you can choose which dog you want to train and in which sport you watch to train them. Before you decide on a sport, I highly suggest you take a look at the Reference Table near the bottom of the page and compare it to your dog’s stats. In order for a dog to do well in a sport, it should have high stats in the major stats for the sports it’s trained in. For instance, if you wanted to train your dog in Agility, your dog would do best if it had high stats in Agility (Agi), Intelligence (Int) and Speed (Spd).

4.23 How can you have two training certificates?
There are two ways to have two training certificates, or basically have your dog trained in two different sports. You can:

a) Go to Atlas >> FPP Exchange and trade in 30 FPP for a Ditto Training Ticket, which will allow you to double train your dogs on your own account.

b) Or you can go to the Training Page and scroll down to the section called “Request a Professional Trainer”. Here you’ll see a drop-down list of all the active Professional Trainers. You can either choose a name from this list, or alternatively, type in the ID of a trainer you know. Then simply select the dog you wish to have double trained and the sport you want to train them in. The service will cost 8,000 FPD.

If you’re a Professional Trainer yourself you can double train your own dogs ^_^

4.24 How do I raise my dog’s stats?
There are several different ways to raise the stats, or statistics, of your dog. Equipping them with leashes and collars will add stat points to different areas depending on which type of accessory you use. Feeding your dogs stat-giving foods will also raise specific areas. Running your dog through a training area gives you the chance of raising a random stat every 24 hours, and each time your dog levels they will gain stat points on their own. There are also some special items that will give your dogs extra stats, as well as an elusive white rabbit and a rather spooky tomb…

4.25 How do stats and levels affect breeding?
When it comes to how the pups will turn out, the stats of the parents really don’t make a difference. What truly matters are the levels. The stats of any dog on FP are determined by a virtual “role”, or the picking of a random number by FP’s programming. When a puppy’s stats are first rolled, they turn out exactly the same as a dog you would buy from the pet store. Then, one of the pup’s stats is randomly chosen, and is boosted according to the levels of the parents. The dam’s level is added to the stat roll’s minimum, and the sire’s level is added to the maximum. The stat is rolled with the new range, and given to the boosted pup.

All that can be pretty confusing, so here’s an example:

You decide to breed your two border collies, the dam (female) being level 10, and the sire (male) being level 15. The lucky stat to be boosted is Agility, or AGI. Since the border collie is part of the Herding group, it’s normal roll for AGI is between 15 and 20. Now we add the dam’s level to the minimum number, and the sire’s level to the maximum number, and our new range is 25 (15+10) to 35 (20+15).

Basically, FP works as a great big “circle of life” (hehe). Stats will determine how well your dog does in shows, which means they will level higher, and higher levels give your puppies higher stats, which means they’ll do better in shows, reaching a higher level, giving their puppies better stats, which means they’ll do even better in shows…you get the picture ^_^

4.26 There are lots of little letters in front of my dog’s name and I can’t get them off!!
The letters are one of two things: what the dog is trained in, or the prefix of a previous kennel. A prefix will be listed first, followed by the title of your dog and the sport they are trained in. The letters cannot be removed, and they’re not going to hurt your dog ;)

4.27 How can I change my dog’s profile colors?
The ability to color your dog’s page is one of the perks of being elite. If you’re already elite you can select a new color scheme by either choosing one from the options listed beside “Theme:” on your dog’s page, or you can select “custom” and enter your own colors.

5. Shows
    5.1 What are shows?
Shows are the basic competitions your dogs can enter on FP. They’re hosted by players from all over the world, and give your dogs a chance to hopefully gain more points and wins.

5.2 How do I enter my dog in a show?
Go to Atlas >> Big Shiny Trophy marked “Shows”. From here you can use the form to find the right shows for your dog. Your dog must be trained in a sport, vaccinated, groomed, fed, and happy.

    5.3 What is “SEF”?
SEF, or Show Entering Form, is a faster way of showing dogs. Basically it allows you to enter your dogs in multiple shows with a single click. For now the ability can only be purchased for 20 FPP, but eventually it will be available to all members.

5.4 How many shows can I enter at once?
Non-elite members can enter 30 shows, elite members can enter 50.

5.5 How many points will I get for each show?
The points a dog gains from each show is based on the following formula:

(entries * base)/place

The “entries” are how many other dogs are entered in your show. If the entries are over 30, the show is divided into two separate sections, which means that the number of entries will never be more than 30.

The “base” is a minimum amount of points for each show title. The base points are as follows: N=15, Pn=30, A=40, M=50, Ex=60, Ch/GC/NC=70, CC/WC=80, UC/IC/SC=90

The product of those two numbers is then divided by the place your dog got in the show. Because every show has a base amount of points, your dog is guaranteed to get at least that many points in every show it enters.

    5.6 What are titles?
Show titles are the level of competition your dog is at, and is based on how many places they have. For instance, when your dog first begins showing they have the show title of Novice. When they gain enough places (1st-6th) in shows, they’ll move up to Advanced Novice, and can continue all the way up to Star Champion 0_0

5.7 My dog went up a level but not a title! What went wrong?
Not a thing :) How fast your dog levels does not necessarily correspond to how fast it gains titles. The two things work independently from each other.

5.8 It’s not letting me enter a show!
Check and double check that you’re putting in all of the correct information for your dog, including their correct title and show type. Make sure the dog is vaccinated and at a proper condition to show. If the dog already has its maximum number of shows, you cannot enter it in any more ;)

    5.9 Can I create shows?
Yes, and please do! FP will only create 30 shows for each show category, so the FP community depends on its players to create all of the others. Go to Atlas >> Trophy >> Create a Show to make your own shows.

5.10 What kind of show should I make?
Any kind you like! You can try searching for different show types to see which sections need shows the most, but you are not required to make a certain type of show.

5.11 When do shows run for the day?
At 12 AM Midnight FP time. However, it can take anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours for all of the shows to run completely.

6. Litters
    6.1 How do I get a litter?
By breeding two dogs together. You can do this by going to your kennel page and choosing “Breed dogs”. You can either breed two of your dogs together, or use an outside stud or bitch. However, if you use an outside bitch the litter will not show up on your kennel page, but the owner of the bitch. You will still be in total control of the puppies, and responsible for their care, and when the puppies are ready to leave the litter the one(s) you have chosen will be automatically sent to your kennel. You cannot get a litter from the pet store.

6.2 How many puppies can I keep?
Normal accounts can keep 1 puppy, and elite accounts can keep 2.

6.3 How long will the puppies be in the litter?
Puppies are weaned from the litter at 12 AM on the 6th day. At this time you’ll need to make sure you have enough room in your kennel for the puppies you chose to keep, or you will not receive them, nor will you be able to get them back. Puppies emerge from the litter at 7 FP days old.

6.4 What happens to the puppies I don’t keep?
Any puppies not chosen will be sold to imaginary “pet homes”, where they will romp and play and live wonderful virtual lives. ^_^ You will be given a certain amount of money for each puppy, determined by the overall quality of the litter.

    6.5 What is “Litter Quality”?
At 3 FP days, you will be able to see your litter’s “Quality”. This is determined by several factors, including the health of your puppies and the levels of the parents. The higher your Litter Quality is, the more you will get for each pup you don’t keep. It is possible to get over 100.

    6.6 What are “Actions”?
When your puppies are growing up, you can socialize them, desensitize them to noise, and teach them not to bite. You can see how good or bad your puppies are doing by looking at the “Status” section on their page. When the litter is born, all of these sections will be “Horrible”. For the next 6 days, you can work with them on each section every 12 hours by choosing one of the “lessons” and hitting “Submit”. The puppies can have up to “Excellent” in each section. Working with your puppies also affects your Litter Quality (for the better).

6.7 Can I feed my puppies?
From 0 to 2 days old, the puppies will be fine drinking their mother’s milk. At 3 days old you can feed your puppies Lacrima Puppy Food, which you can buy at the Food Shop in the Market. To feed your puppies, go to your Inventory, choose the puppy food you wish to use, and the litter you wish to feed.

6.8 Why can’t I sell/move the puppies or the mother?
Puppies cannot be separated from their mother as long as they are in the litter, and cannot be moved themselves, therefore the mother must stay in the same kennel as the puppies until they are weaned. Not only are the puppies still in need of their mother, Kah is not in need of the coding headache moving them around would cause ;)

6.9 Why are my puppies’ stats so low?
When your puppies are born, it is not uncommon to see stats of 1 and 2 (they’re only puppies, give them a break!). These stats will slowly increase over the next 6 days, until on the 6th day you can see their final statistics.

7. Genetics
    7.1 What are genetics?
Genetics, or the genes of a dog, are what give your dog its health and color characteristics, as well as how big its litters will be and what kind of boosts it will pass on to its puppies.

You can see your dog’s genetics by going to Atlas -> Gene Test

7.2 How do I assign my dog a color?
On your dog’s profile beside “Color:” there should be a link that says “Click here to assign your dog a color!”. This should take you to a page where you will have 10 random color choices depending on what colors your dog’s breed comes in. Be sure about your color before you choose, because there’s no fur dye on FP!

7.3 How do genetics affect my dog?
Genetics have an impact on almost every aspect of your dog and what kinds of dogs it will produce. They determine what kinds of colors it is able to pass on, which boosts its puppies may receive in stats, how healthy the dog is, and even how big future litters will be.

7.4 How do genetics affect my litters?
When you breed dogs yourself, the colors of your puppies are determined by the genetics of your parent dogs, rather than being able to choose them yourself. The parent genetics will also determine your puppies’ health, stat boosts, and what litter size it will be able to have later on in life.

To see which genetics do what, go to Atlas -> Gene Test and take a look at the breakdown of each genetic pair and what they affect.

7.5 Do I have to pay attention to genetics?
Nobody is required to pay attention to anything but the rules on Furry Paws. However, genetics can have an impact on how well your dog does in shows and what kinds of litters it has, so you may want to have some idea of how they work.

8. Shops, Clinics, and Training Areas
8.1 What is a user shop?
A user shop on FP is just like it sounds – a shop run by a user. They are unofficial shops run by Furry Paws players, and what is sold there is completely up to the owner. If you shop carefully, you can sometimes find good deals on items at cheaper prices than the regular FP shops.

8.2 How do I run my own shop?
All users can start their own shop by going to Market and clicking on the cashbox marked “My Shop”. You can edit your shop name and description to your liking, and can hold up to 15 items in your shop. To put items into your shop, you can either send the item individually by selecting the item in your inventory and choosing “Put Item in Shop”, or you can use the Shop Stocker to send multiple items to your shop at once.
Items must be at least $1 to show up in your shop, and cannot exceed $999999 in price. When someone buys something from your shop, the money will go into your “Shop Money”. You’ll need to click on “Collect Shop Money” to have the funds transferred to your on-hand money. Clicking on “Shop History” will show you who has been to your shop in the last week.

If you want to hold more items in your shop, you can become a Merchant through the Jobs agency. This will allow you to hold 50 items in your shop, and will also give you a 25% discount in regular FP shops, which may be helpful in making a profit ;)

8.3 How do I get my own clinic?
To start your own clinic, you’ll need to first become a Veterinary Trainee. Once you’ve advanced to a full-fledged vet, you’ll be able to create your own clinic by clicking on Atlas >> Clinics >> Manage Your Clinic. Once you’ve started your clinic, you’ll be able to edit its description and decide on your service prices. To collect money from your clinic, click on “Transactions and Money” and hit “Collect Clinic Money”.

8.4 How do I get a public training area?
To create a training area for the public to use, you first need to become a Professional Trainer. Once you’ve achieved this, you can make your kennel training area open to the public, for a small fee of course. Click on Atlas >> Your Training Area to manage your new service.

9. Trading Center
9.1 What is the trading center?
The Trading Center is a place where you can trade items, FPP, and FPD with other players of Furry Paws. It provides a safe way to transfer items, money, and FPP without the chance of the other player not holding up their end of the bargain. You can get there by going to Atlas >> Long brown building marked “Trade”

    9.2 How do I find a trade?
Once you’re at the Trading Center, by clicking on “Search” at the top of the page you can search for how much FPP, FPD, or items you’re looking for. To look for trades by a certain player, you can type in their ID number next to “creator”. If you prefer to just browse, you can also click on “Public Trades” to view all available trades.

9.3 How do I make an offer on a trade?
Once you’ve found a trade you like, you can click on “Make an Offer On Trade ____” at the bottom of that trade (convenient, no?). This will take you to a page where you can choose what you would like to offer to the player – it’s probably a good idea to take note of what they’ve mentioned in “Wanted” section of their trade. You’ll also need to enter your password, and can add any comments you would like the other player to see. Click on “Make Offer”, and your offer will be sent to the owner of the trade. If they like the offer, you will receive a message stating that your trade as been accepted, and the items, money, or FPP will be automatically sent to your account (while whatever you offered will be automatically be withdrawn from your account and sent to the other player in return).

Be absolutely sure you really want to give up whatever you offer, because once the other player has accepted there’s no going back! You can click on “Your Offers” at the top of the page to see what you’re currently offering, and delete offers you’ve decided against.

9.4 How do I create my own trade?
Click on “Create Trade” at the top of the trading center page. This will take you to a page where you can choose how much FPP, FPD, or which items you would like to put up for trade (you can also put in combinations of all three). If you would like the trade to be available to everyone, you would choose “Public” for the Type. However, if you would like to send the trade privately to a single player, you can choose “Private” and enter in that player’s ID number. You’ll also need to enter in your password, and at the bottom of the form you can let the prospective traders know what kind of offers you’re looking for in the “Wanted” box.

When someone has made an offer on your trade, you will receive an alert letting you know. By clicking on “Your Trades” you can see what you have up for trade currently and how many offers are on each one. Click on “view offers” to see what other players are offering for your trade. Here you can either “Accept Offer” to follow through with the transaction, or you can “Reject Offer” to delete the offer and wait for something better to come along.

Again, be absolutely sure you want to make the trade before you accept, because once you’ve accepted there’s no going back! You can click on “delete trade” to take your trade off the market.

10. Tricks
    10.1 What are these "tricks"?
Tricks are things you can teach your dogs. They serve little purpose, at the moment, other than further decorating your dog's name display.

10.2 How do I teach my dog a trick?
You'll need to go to "Madame's Trick School". There, you can sign up for courses, which cost $1000 times the trick level currently. After the dog graduates from the course, you'll want to further increase the dog's knowledge of the trick by going to their personal trick page (linked to from their dog page) and practicing it.

10.3 Why won't my dog respond well in the trick school?
How your dog responds is based on its personality. There are three categories, really, timid, medium-ish, and bold dogs. Once you figure out what type of reaction works best for your dog, it gets much easier.

10.4 How are the trick shows set up?
There are four levels of competition. To increase in a level, your dog must earn enough trick points from the trick shows. Gaining a trick title will grant your pup a new colored diamond by its name. There are five judges per competition level, each of which can be booked by sponsoring kennels once every hour.

10.5 What do the judges' likes and dislikes mean?
The FP judges are biased against or for certain tricks. If you play it well, you can often get your dog a better score by planning the correct routine.

10.6 How many trick shows can I enter my dog in?
You can enter your pup in as many as you like. However, you can only have one of your dogs in one show, not several.

10.7 How do I see how well my dog did?
Go to your dog's Trick Show Result page to view a commentary the most recent results. Unlike regular shows, the score your dog receives is equivalent to the amount of trick points they earn.

10.8 Does my dog get any benefits from entering trick shows?
Other than boasting rights, not really. There is an achievement board for tricks where your pup can earn a trophy and some cash if he or she rises to the top.

10.9 Do I have to bother with tricks and trick shows for my dog to do well in regular shows?
No, not at all. At the moment, the two are completely unlinked. You could effectively play only with tricks without bothering with regular shows, or vice versa. Trick shows are meant for people with extra time on their hands who would like to gain a few more "honors" for their dog.

11. FPP & Elite Accounts
    11.1 What are “FPP”?
FPP is short for Furry Paws Points. They are a second form of currency on Furry Paws. You can get FPP by donating to FP; every $0.50 counts for 1 FPP. You can also get 1 FPP for every image you get accepted into the Image Bank.

11.2 What is an “Elite” account?
An Elite account is basically an “upgraded” account—it comes with certain benefits. Currently, with an elite account you get:

* $5000 more money each week.
* 20 more shows a day per dog
* 10 more shows to create each day
* HTML allowed in Nickname
* Use of "actions" in chat
* Ability to create a Club
* No advertisements
* Color Theme option on dog pages
* More job benefits (coming soon)

11.3 How can I get one?
The easiest way is to donate $20 to Furry Paws, which will get you the 40 FPP you’ll need to get a year-long elite account. You could also donate $5 for a 60-day elite account. Once you’ve donated, you can click on Atlas -- > FPP Exch. to exchange your FPP for your account.

11.4 I thought you said this was free!
It is. You are not required in any way, shape, or form to buy an elite account, and it is not necessary for game play. Elite accounts come with perks because these are the people who are keeping FP alive. The FP server costs over $900 a month to keep running, and Kah is not a rich person (She’s in college. What more do you need to know?). It’s because of donations from players that she can afford to keep this game running.

11.5 So how do I donate?
Please read through the Donation Page to find all of the information you need to know before you donate.

11.6 I just donated. How long will it take before I get my FPP?
If you sent the money by mail, you will be credited as soon as Kah receives it (you can see when she last checked her P.0. box on the top of the News page.) If you donated by Paypal, your donation will be credited automatically.

12. Miscellaneous
12.1 Who are these “mod” people?
“Mods”, or Moderators, are players Kah hand-picks to help keep everything running smoothly on FP. Mods help solve gaming issues, deal with rule breaking, and make sure everyone is behaving in the forums. These players are highly respectable, responsible, trustworthy people who Kah trusts to keep the ever-growing world of Furry Paws in order. You cannot sign up to be a mod – what do you think would happen if half the population had the keys to the realm? Chaos my friends! Messaging Kah and asking her to make you one probably isn’t going to do you much good, either. If she thinks you’re able, she’ll contact you herself. The best thing you can do is strive to be the very best player you can be on Furry Paws :)

    12.2 Downtime? Updates? Projects? What?
FP is in beta mode. That means that not everything is set in stone yet, and probably won’t be for quite a while. Until that time, Kah will continue to make adjustments, add features, and change the things that aren’t working, all of which will probably require some downtime, or time when the game is not available. At such times there is usually a friendly forum for the FP obsessed (*raises hand*) to hang around on until our beloved game is back online (yay!). Other times Kah is simply doing regular maintenance on the old girl that helps to keep us from losing a screw or two (or three). All in all, I wouldn’t complain too much, because it’s all being done to make the game better, and that’s can’t be a bad thing ^_^

12.3 FP Is sooooooo sloooowww! What’s wrong?
*pats the servers* There are a few things that can contribute to general slowness on FP. A large amount of members online at once can slow things down, and between the hours of midnight FP time to around 1:30 am FP time all of the show scripts for every show in the game are being run – that’s a lot of shows for the poor servers to handle! Other times it’s something completely unrelated to either of those, and only Kah knows why that happens – but she usually fixes it in due time, and it’s just one more quirk that makes the game so lovable, right? :D

12.4 What is a Newbie Helper?
A Newbie Helper is a player who knows FP like the back of their hand. They’ve read the FAQs 100 times over, played the game long enough to know exactly what they’re doing, and are kind and patient enough to answer a torrent of questions from confuzzled newbies every time they’re online. Newbie Helpers are marked by a small blue icon with a white “?” that appears next to their name, and you can find online Newbie Helpers by going to Atlas>> Brown building marked “Helpers”

12.5 How can I become a Newbie Helper?
At the top of the Atlas map there’s a link that says “Newbie Helper Application”. Please make sure you have played for at least 1 month before you even think about becoming a Newbie Helper, and you should probably wait quite a bit longer than that. You will find everything you need to know about the application process on that same page.

12.6 My Newbie Helper Icon Disappeared! Where did it go?
Be sure that you’ve been answering every question correctly and politely, and not asking questions that you should probably already know (such as, “how do I show my dog?”). This can result in your Newbie Helper status being taken away by a mod. It’s not done just to be mean, it’s done to make sure newbies aren’t being given misinformation. If you receive your Newbie Helper-hood and are overwhelmed by the questions, or feel that maybe you don’t know the game that well after all, simply go to your kennel page and select “No” beside “Newbie Helper:”. When you feel like you’re ready you can always turn it back on again.

If you really, honestly can’t find any reason for it to have been taken away, it may have been one of FP’s random bugs. Either way, you can always re-apply on the application page :)

    12.7 Are you Kah?
Eheh, I wish I was that talented!! Kah, short for Kahlem, is the creator, owner, coder, and updater of Furry Paws. She makes all the final decisions about new additions and changes to the site, and codes everything herself. Basically, she deserves some cookies! :D
