Long View History
Long View Collies has been breeding quality Rough Collies since 2004. In the earlier stages of our development, before we were known as Long View, we tried our hand in several other breeds from Dachshunds to Newfoundlands! Finally we created a foundation trio of Rough Collies, then Long-Haired Collies, and they did so fantastically on their first night of shows that we decided to specialize in the breed. Our first three Roughs consisted of two males and one female, Long View's Sudden Surprise, Long View's Ivory Shadow, and Long View's Storm In A Teacup. These Roughs formulated the backbone of Long View, and it is thanks to them that we were once the leading Rough Collie breeder on FP.
When we first came into Rough Collies, there were only a handful of Rough Collie breeders. There was an established group of breeders, and we quickly made ourselves known there. For the next couple of years, Long View had dogs regularly on the top 10 list in Roughs, and at one point we dominated the list for a year straight. Long View was also the first kennel to break 2 main records of the Rough Collie world, the leveling record and the winnings record. During that year, level 20 was a high feat and normally kennels did not get past level 17 or 18. Long View's Trump Card was the FIRST Rough Collie in all of Furry Paws to attain level 20. The second record of wins was manifested in the title of Ch., which had not been seen in Rough Collies before our dog Long View's Guardian Devil. This record was actually broken by us a second time by Guardian Devil's own grand-son, Long View's Mischief Night!
Long View has gone through many things in the past years and we've had our time broken up by two major hiatus'. The first one was the result of a family problem, and we lost many of our Roughs because there was no locking feature. When the problem was resolved it had been a year, and we were almost starting from scratch, and began to breed together the dogs of our main lines so that we could have one major foundation line that led back to our 3 foundation dogs. At one point we lost our main line due to an error in the kennel space, but great dedication led us to pay the 100$ fee to get the one free retirement breeding. Sadly with the onset of a second hiatus due to college that line was lost and the existing dogs retired. After that, an extended, long long break was taken. Only recently has Long View returned. Now we have only one dog left that goes back to our lines; a new puppy from a breeding out of our retired Beta lineage dog, Roland (Long View's Gunslinger).
Long View has seen many changes, and many breeds coming and going, but our heart is with the Rough Collie. Long View will always be a kennel that prides itself in the Rough Collie. The day the Rough is no longer in our program, is the day we cease to be Long View Collies.
