Far-Strider Sleddogs

My name is Henken Xapka, and welcome to the info page for my kennel, Far-Strider Sleddogs!

A bit about myself and the dogs: I keep a *very* small kennel in the northern hinterland area of the Seward Peninsula, Alaska. I never let my total number of dogs go over 12, and I aim for an ideal small team of 5-8 healthy adults to keep here for the small teams I like to run. Anything beyond that, I place pups with proper working (sledding) homes either competitively or recreationally - but I breed only very rarely! I choose to run small back country teams because its the kind of mushing that I feel connected to and that I feel fulfils my dog's purpose and strengths.

I began with Alaskan village dogs (modernly known as Alaskan Huskies) of a more traditional Northern type than the racing dogs typically seen today in mid-distance and even long-distance kennels. One of my first dogs, Mirku, actually came directly from a native family in one of the villages here. Around 1 year ago I was contacted by a former training partner, Ace from Hootalinqua, Yukon Territory in Canada asking if I could take one of his female Seppala Siberian Sleddogs, a rare strain Breed descended from the original bloodlines that gave way to the Siberian Husky. I accepted, and a short time later I received a letter from another musher asking about a possible leased litter for a stud service. Instead of leasing my girl Tikna out for the stud owner, I offered to house her while she whelped the litter in exchange for one pup back of the litter. That began my very small forre into breeding Seppalas, and I have fallen in love and plan to keep them on my team with my Alaskans always!

If you are interested in puppies from my dogs, message me as soon as you are sure - I breed only once every 2-3 years and often have pups spoken for far in advance!
