Inspired by Helm's Deep from The Lord of the Rings.
Named for Helm Hammerhand, Helm's Deep is a fortified gorge located below the Thrihyrne, near Westfold, and is the location of The Hornburg. It was originally settled by the Men of Gondor, who constructed it during the Second Age. It was later given to the Éothéod during the rule of Eorl the Young and became a stronghold of the Rohirrim. That is why, in the year TA 3019, King Théoden of Rohan led the people of Edoras to the Hornburg to take refuge from the impending attack of Saruman's army. There the Battle of the Hornburg was fought, which ended in victory for Rohan, forever immortalizing Helm's Deep and the brave people who fought there. Much later, during the Fourth Age, a Dwarven colony took up residence in the cave system behind the Deeping Wall, where they carefully restored The Hornburg to its' former glory.
